Product Overview

Archive your Commodore floppies (and CMD HD partitions) to your contemporary PC, without the hassles of external parallel ports, IRQ settings, special adapters, bulky cables, or the alphabet soup of disk drive cable adapters.  ZoomFloppy replaces all X*-1541 cables with a simple USB-based hardware device guaranteed to work with today's machines using today's multitasking operating systems.  Simply plug into any free USB port, connect your CBM drive via a serial cable, and transfer data to or from your software collection.

Product Features

  • Attach any CBM serial device to your PC, including printers
  • Works with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
  • Open Source solution, no vendor lock-in
  • Active development community
  • Minimal footprint, no external power supply needed
  • Parallel access hardware support

NOTE: ZoomFloppy requires an IEC cable (sold separately), an IEEE cable if using the IEEE version and targeting IEEE drives (sold separately), and a USB to mini-USB cable (available at many computer stores).

More information is available at: http://www.go4retro.com/products/zoomfloppy/.

Stocking Note: The non-IEEE and the IEEE version differ only in the presence or absence of the IEEE connector.  That said, they are stocked as two separate items and we are sometimes out of one or the other. If the IEEE version is out of stock, we can often solder connectors to the non-IEEE version, but the reverse is not true.  Thus, if the non-IEEE version is showing as out of stock, please consider the IEEE version or check back, as we try to keep both in stock at all times

    An amazing device!

Posted by Michael C on 15th May 2021

The ZoomFloppy works perfectly! I was getting worried about my 37 year old Commodore 64 floppy disks longevity some time ago but I always put a back-up plan on the back burner. The ZoomFloppy has allowed me to archive my precious software and data quickly an easily. The first time I saw a 1541 floppy disk directory appear on my Windows PC is one that I will never forget!

    Works Great!

Posted by Mike D on 6th May 2021

I ordered this and tested it with an original 1541. I was so impressed, that I decided to do the parallel mod to my 1541 to use ZoomFloppy to it's fullest capabilities, and I'm glad I did. I've written many nib/g64 files to disk and they've all worked so far. I've also had 100% creating .nib files from my existing disks. Much improved from the old days with a parallel port PC.

    Works great

Works great and is a hassle free product to archive & transfer d64's to disk. I've used this board to archive a couple of dozen original floppies, and it worked without a hitch. System: Windows 10 + OpenCBM + CBM-Transfer (aka CBMXfer) & 1541.

    Well built wonderful device

Posted by AudioDan on 1st Feb 2021

I am no computer programer but getting the thing to talk to my mac was not so hard. I love the fact that it is solid enough that mounting it into a standalone box will be easy. it is a well designed board. However, if there was a "auto load" ,even if it was at extra cost, feature so goofballs like myself could have it a little more plug and play it would be nice. Not a dig just a thought.

    Just love it!

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. I'm now able to access my massive 30+yo collection of 5 1/4 floppy disks :-) It's like I'm 15 again!

Great and stable access to floppy disk drives

Posted by Alexander F. on 21st Jan 2021

I had been looking for a reliable solution to access my Commodore Floppy disk drives from a PC. I was unhappy with the spartanic solution used before, mainly as it was quite unstable. Now with ZoomFloppy every thing works like a charm. I could write disks that were usable at a C128D and access data without any interruptions. Speed is fabulous with a 1571. So ... it's a clear recommendation! AAA+++

    Still Useful in 2020

Posted by Alexander G. M. Smith on 22nd Nov 2020

I finally got around to archiving my Commodore 64 floppies this year, after a friend sent me a box of his artifacts. Fortunately it was just in time; my newer floppy drive had failed (the very common Newtronics read head corrosion problem) but my original VIC-1541 still worked. I looked into parallel printer port cables but Peter Schepers pointed me at ZoomFloppy. Definitely the best choice for modern computers, and with the addition of a parallel data 1541 hack, I can copy whole disks in under 30 seconds. No waiting any more between taking archival photos of each disk and getting too far ahead of the copying! I've also been able to get it working with the VICE C64 emulator running under Linux - weird having a real disk drive run by a fake C64. But useful - can use a USB gamepad as a joystick. Anyway, with a bit of effort, I was also able to convert my Paperclip64 files to much more readable HTML, story of that is at http://web.ncf.ca/au829/WeekendReports/20201115/Paperclip64ExtractingAndPrinting.html Thanks everyone involved for coming up with the ZoomFloppy!

    Simply Awesome

Posted by Rick on 26th Oct 2020

I bought this device in hopes of using it to bridge my 1571 floppy drive and my pc to burn floppy disk directly from a d64 C64 image. This with CBMXfer software works phenomenally. I am so pleased with the performance of this device, I highly recommend it. The only way it could be any better is if it actually came with a case but you can buy them for like 25.00
