Product Overview

Archive your Commodore floppies (and CMD HD partitions) to your contemporary PC, without the hassles of external parallel ports, IRQ settings, special adapters, bulky cables, or the alphabet soup of disk drive cable adapters.  ZoomFloppy replaces all X*-1541 cables with a simple USB-based hardware device guaranteed to work with today's machines using today's multitasking operating systems.  Simply plug into any free USB port, connect your CBM drive via a serial cable, and transfer data to or from your software collection.

Product Features

  • Attach any CBM serial device to your PC, including printers
  • Works with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
  • Open Source solution, no vendor lock-in
  • Active development community
  • Minimal footprint, no external power supply needed
  • Parallel access hardware support

NOTE: ZoomFloppy requires an IEC cable (sold separately), an IEEE cable if using the IEEE version and targeting IEEE drives (sold separately), and a USB to mini-USB cable (available at many computer stores).

More information is available at: http://www.go4retro.com/products/zoomfloppy/.

Stocking Note: The non-IEEE and the IEEE version differ only in the presence or absence of the IEEE connector.  That said, they are stocked as two separate items and we are sometimes out of one or the other. If the IEEE version is out of stock, we can often solder connectors to the non-IEEE version, but the reverse is not true.  Thus, if the non-IEEE version is showing as out of stock, please consider the IEEE version or check back, as we try to keep both in stock at all times

    Awesome

Posted by Henque on 11th Dec 2013

Quite easy to hook up and get to work with my Linux computers. As said by other, it is an advantage to get familiar with OpenCBM . I have not been able to read or write d81 images on my C1581 yet, but I am working on that one. Apparently, it is an open issue in OpenCBM.

Worked perfectly, right out of the box

Posted by Glenn on 11th Dec 2013

I have a batch of old floppy disks containing Commodore 64 programs I wrote about 25 years ago, and I wanted to take one last look at some of them. I have a working Commodore 1541 disk drive, but unfortunately a NON-working Commodore 64 computer. With the ZoomFloppy it was a breeze to hook up the 1541 disk drive to my PC (running Windows XP) and transfer all the data from my old disks into PC files. I recommend following the link from the product description, to get the installation instructions. Everything worked just as described!

Just what you need for your drive!

I just unpack it, plug and start to use. Awesome! I don't write long "review", because everything is already said by others. PS Windows 7 x64.

    Fantastic Product

Posted by Unknown on 4th Dec 2013

I was looking for a way to write disk image files (D64) to real floppy disks. This product does make that very easy! Delivery to Europe was nice and quick. I had a bit of trouble getting it to work for Ubuntu but it was just a matter of finding the right debian packages (go to http://www.trikaliotis.net/debian. install his debian repositories and install opencbm). Now, I can load my C64 games and programs from real floppies for a real retro experience! Good times! Thanks for this fantastic product

    Working nicely!!

    Posted by thea1ien on 17th Nov 2013

I had already done my homework, so I have this hooked up to my 1571 external drive (doesn't need a parallel cable to nibble disks). Already had the download package ready as well. So far I've been able to make several working G64 backups of my original game disks, most will run in WinVice nicely. Still a few things to learn, such as using with other drive types, such as my CMD FD drive, or even a CMD HD drive (have not tried yet). But it looks like file copying from any commodore drive should work, at least using Vice, real IEC mode and Omega-Q II. Backing up disks is so far with this thing...

    Wonderful Device

I absolutely love the Zoom Floppy! When my Zoom Floppy arrived, it took about 10 minutes from opening the package till I was downloading programs to the 1541 Floppy. I liked this product so much that I purchased a second Floppy to use on another C=64 and 1541 drive.

Wish I'd n=known about this product sooner

After days trying to get my X1541 cable to work with my new computer, I looked for an alternative solution. This one works almost out of the box, just install software, plug in the cables and off you go. Works fast as well. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the package didn't contain any instructions at all. Just some legal stuff about the opens oure license. Just a simple leaflet where to get the documents and software or even an URL. But to be honest I managed just fine, 4 stars is maybe a bit harsh.

Ideal for backing up your ageing C64 floppies!

Received my ZoomFloppy, hooked it up to the PC, installed the driver package and started using it with GUI4cbm4win, which was incredibly hassle-free! Using it with my 1571 happily. :)

    Excellent product

Posted by Clinton on 11th Oct 2013

The ZoomFloppy was exactly what I needed and it was dead-simple to use. Minutes after connecting the device I was backing up all my old c64 5.25 inch floppy disks. Very impressed with ease of use and the price was right too!
