Product Overview

Archive your Commodore floppies (and CMD HD partitions) to your contemporary PC, without the hassles of external parallel ports, IRQ settings, special adapters, bulky cables, or the alphabet soup of disk drive cable adapters.  ZoomFloppy replaces all X*-1541 cables with a simple USB-based hardware device guaranteed to work with today's machines using today's multitasking operating systems.  Simply plug into any free USB port, connect your CBM drive via a serial cable, and transfer data to or from your software collection.

Product Features

  • Attach any CBM serial device to your PC, including printers
  • Works with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
  • Open Source solution, no vendor lock-in
  • Active development community
  • Minimal footprint, no external power supply needed
  • Parallel access hardware support

NOTE: ZoomFloppy requires an IEC cable (sold separately), an IEEE cable if using the IEEE version and targeting IEEE drives (sold separately), and a USB to mini-USB cable (available at many computer stores).

More information is available at: http://www.go4retro.com/products/zoomfloppy/.

Stocking Note: The non-IEEE and the IEEE version differ only in the presence or absence of the IEEE connector.  That said, they are stocked as two separate items and we are sometimes out of one or the other. If the IEEE version is out of stock, we can often solder connectors to the non-IEEE version, but the reverse is not true.  Thus, if the non-IEEE version is showing as out of stock, please consider the IEEE version or check back, as we try to keep both in stock at all times

Easy to hook up, and works flawlessly with OpenCBM as well as VICE. Very happy with it.

Zoomfloppy - now have access to all of my old 5 1/4 floppies

Posted by Marshall on 4th Dec 2014

Got the itch to go through some of my old c64 floppy disks. Purchased the zoomfloppy, which has allowed me to connect my disk drive via USB to my pc. Connecting it was quick and simple process. Setting up software to open disks and create image files took a bit longer. The only con is creating a case to place the board in to keep it protected. Would be great if it already came inside of a case or if this was at least an option during ordering.

    Using it under Ubuntu

Posted by Daniel on 19th Nov 2014

The product is is without any question fine. I have used it to convert a bunch of C64 floppies on my Linux machine. The process of getting it run is a bit involved and my main issue is that I have to power cycle the ZoomFloppy and my 1541 after each d64 image rip.

I didn't think it would do what I wanted it to, but it does!

Posted by Unknown on 27th Oct 2014

I recently picked up a C64 and C128 with a few floppy drives, and wanted to recreate my experience with floppies as a youth. I have many disk images, but wanted a way to transfer them to floppy using a PC and doing so inexpensively. I ran across this item being recommended in a forum and decided to try it, not really expecting much. Well, it did just what I wanted it to, and I was able to take disk images and copy them to floppy disks which my C64 happily ran. I'm so thankful this product exists, even though I have a SD2IEC, this give me another way to have some retro fun with my Commodore computers. Thank you so much!

Awesome piece of hardware, gotta love it! :o)

Although it's quite something of a challenge to gather all necessary software, the ZoomFloppy worked right away on my Mac after I compiled the update tool and flashed the module's software. Thanks for this jewel.

    Work like a charm

Posted by Unknown on 23rd Jun 2014

I finally have something that works with my C64 drive. I easily transferred a C64 disk to a D64 format with ZoomFloppy and OpenCBM on Ubuntu. It took me less than a minute to plug it and half an hour to understand how OpenCBM works.

    Awesome

Amazing for what it does. Has helped me backup several Commodore titles onto .d64 images and also to create several floppies from existing .d64 image files. Easy to setup and works great.

If you want to archive your C64 floppy disks, this is the product to get! (and you probably want to, because these disks aren't going to last much longer) Easy to use, with parallel connection very fast, a perfect product!!
