Product Overview

It seems the Texas Instruments Compact Computer never received a lot of love.  Essentially abandoned by TI while it was in production, the machine suffered from a slew of problems with peripherals like the announced but never released wafer drive, the switch to an exciting but incompatible "HexBus" expansion port, and no killer apps.

Thus, it feels heroic to work on some hardware for the unit, to help alleviate some of the above issues.  There's nothing special about these boards, they are almost direct copies of TI's 32kB battery backed RAM expansion and a 32kB ROM cart.  The extender is truly an obvious design, so much so that it is nearly laughable to assign a copyright to it.  Still, the boards may help someone, and so I am offering these prototypes here for those who want to tinker with these machines.  If demand warrants, I'll see about designing a production expansion option.

Note: This is an "On-Demand" based product.  We do not stock this item, but we will procure more units when 10+ boards are sold or 4 weeks since the first order has elapsed.  Thus, we recommend you not combine this item with other, traditionally stocked, items on our site, if timely delivery is required.

If you're into TI's CC-40 and digging out its secrets, this board is a must. It breaks out all the signals on the cartridge slot and allows you to tinker to your heart's content.

    Neat and clean

The board is very neat with all needed components printed clearly on the board. However, not mentioned for the resistors is the wattage, 1/4 watt. Nice thing is it is flexible. If you want to install a custom ROM, you can. If you want to use it to expand the RAM, it'll do that too. Just change a couple of components. If you want to play with the TI CC-40, this is definitely on your want list! And getting the cartridge breakout board is a wonderful bonus!
