Product Overview

Given the dearth of sound options available for the TANDY Color Computer 1,2, and 3 and the Dragon Data Dragon 32 and 64 computing systems, those handy with a soldering iron might be interested in securing a reproduction of the Speech Systems Symphony-12 12 voice AY-3-8910-based sound card for these machines.  As with the original, this design is all through hole and designed for easy assembly.  Grab a soldering iron and a few hours and be rewarded with a quadraphonic set of period correct audio capabilities.

This reproduction is licensed under Creative Commons Share Alike 4.0 terms and all files are available at the GitHub repository, including the Bill of Materials

The required audio ICs, the General Instruments AY-3-8910 IC, are now available in the store.

4 PSGs is a lot of awesome classic sound

go4retro's board is an amazing project board and is a real work of art on its own. This many thru-holes to solder is a bit intimidating but everything is spaced and marked well to get so much chip into that amount of real estate.

    A Happy CoCo3 User, IdeZilla.

I received the PCB in record time! Also, after ordering separately, I received the four AY's in excellent packaging.

    Easy to build and works

Posted by Theodore A Evans on 6th Nov 2020

I bought this board, then separately obtained all of the necessary components for assembly. Assembly was fairly quick and easy. After assembly, it was tested and works well. If you send audio through your CoCo, the sound levels are a little low. Mixing YM2149 and AY-3-8910 makes this even worse for some of the channels. RI: Gret additional information. The unit is a replica of the Symphony 12, and it looks like it shares a design weakness with that unit.
