Product Overview

Use the power of DMA to increase your Commodore 64, 64C, SX64, 128, or 128D's memory capacity to 16 megabytes!

Compatible with any application that requires or runs more efficiently with a Commodore 1700, 1750, or 1764 RAM Expansion Unit (REU), REU Grande bests the original and other REU clones on the marketplace. REU Grande:

  • is brand new. Don't worry about the operational status of a used Commodore REU purchase.
  • sips power and runs cooler, with no concerns about overloading your regular power supply. (REU Grande works fine with a heavy duty power supply, though)
  • holds more memory. Forget 128kB, 256kB, or 512kB, or even 1MB. The programming interface allows up to 16MB of access, so that's what REU Grande supports.
  • sports the always welcome reset button. Save your power switch!
  • allows multiple memory configurations. You'll probably never need it, but switches allow the REU Grande to mimic memory sizes from 256kB to 16MB.
  • shows you it's being accessed with a blinkenlight. Is the game hung or is it loading data into the REU? Now you'll know

REU Grande is based on a RETRO Innovations idea to offer a low cost REU replacement that does one thing and does it well. With Commodore's custom RAM Expansion Controller (REC) IC no longer in production, REU functionality previously has been offered via multi-featured FPGA solutions (great compatibility, but expensive), or microcontroller emulation (less expensive, but less timing accurate and often offering less memory). REU Grande uses less expensive hardware designed by Adrian Gonzalez (dW of STYLE) to accurately implement REC functionality and provide maximum compatibility. By reducing the cost of fully compatible REU acquisition, our goal is to see the REU become part of the "standard" Commodore setup, encouraging application and game developers to target the REU.

(Adrian and I know cool logo artwork is missing.  We're working on that. If you can help, let us know. Some savings might be in store :-)
