Product Overview

With the Commodore Progammable Logic Adapter (PLA) ICs going bad in this day and age, many people are using EPROMs to replace the unit.  While a PLD-based PLA is best, EPROMs can provide satisfactory results, with sufficiently fast EPROMs.  If you want to try this out, here's a PCB that will adapt a 28 pin EPROM/EEPROM/FLASH ROM to the PLA footprint.

    Works great with ST M27C512-90B6

I screwed up my first one. Make sure you don't solder it backwards! Or buy spares like I did. Anyway, no problems detected after testing with EasyFlash, FC3, uIEC, 1541 Ultimate, and scene demos.

    Works exactly as advertised

This is a great time-saver for the hobbyist technician that still loves to keep their C64 running. Solder some pin headers and a socket on there (or get one already assembled) and certain EPROMs will work fine as a PLA. I used an Atmel AT27C512-70 with no problems at all. Other manufacturer's and speeds may not work as well, so check with other hobbyists before reporting it doesn't work.
